The Detroit Red Wings will likely find themselves in an interesting position this season, with a number of young forwards doing battle for what is expected to be a very limited number of spots on the roster, perhaps even as little as a single spot.

In a recent interview with mlive.com's Brendan Savage, rookie forward Andreas Athanasiou says he's not concerned with what would appear to be stiff competition from both Anthony Mantha and Tomas Nosek

"I'm not worried about that," Athanasiou said while serving as an instructor for a youth camp at Joe Louis Arena. "I'm confident in my abilities.

Anthanasiou knows it will be a tough decision for management to make, but he intends to work hard to make the decision of promoting him full time to the Red Wings roster an easy one.

"I do what I can out there and like I said, it's their decision and I'm doing to do the best I can to make it as easy as possible. Just take it day to day. Come September I'm going to be ready to play.

"It's in their hands what they want to do. I'll try to make their decision as easy as possible."

It's a bold prediction from Anthanasiou, although you wouldn't want to hear him say any different, and you can bet that both Nosek and Mantha will have something to say about it.
