Red Wings scratch first rounder... on his bobblehead night!

We bet Blashill didn't check the Wings' calendar before making the questionable move...

The Detroit Red Wings were hosting the Ottawa Senators last night, as both clubs are out of playoff contention but can still be trouble-makers for teams fighting for a spot in the postseason.

Fans are still excited to see their favourite team in action and to make things even more fun last night, it was  a Bobblehead night in Detroit, where the first 7,500 fans who made it to the game received a free bobblehead figure from young defenseman Dennis Cholowski. The Wings had already promoted the event on social media, posting a photo of the blue line with his own figurine.

Usually when a player gets celebrated on such a night, he is part of the lineup... However, Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill decided to scratch him from the lineup right before the game and inserted another player in his spot.

Later on, it was announced that Cholowski was assigned back in the American Hockey League to Grand Rapids right after the Wings' 3-2 win over the Senators... on the poor guy's own Bobblehead night.

When Blashill was asked about his decision to send down Cholowski on Thursday, the Wings head coach only said that he thought that's what was best for the player at this time in his career.

The 21-year-old had played 52 of his team's 57 games so far this season, scoring a respectable seven-goal, nine-assist record for a total of 16 points. He is a former first round pick, selected 20th overall by the Wings in 2016.

We bet Blashill didn't check the Wings' calendar before making the embarrassing move...
