Red Wings sign goalie despite his request for arbitration.

The Detroit Red Wings apparently were not prepared to call the bluff of goaltender Jared Coreau.

On Tuesday it was announced that Coreau was one of the many players who had filed for salary arbitration after failing to come to terms on a new deal with the Red Wings, but thankfully for organization the process never got that far.

Rather than risk a process that has often created difficult tensions between players and management, the Red Wings announced on Wednesday that they had come to terms on a two-year contract extension with Coreau, avoiding the need for arbitration.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
