Red Wings sign young prospect to a very interesting contract extension.

The Detroit Red Wings dragged this one out about as long as possible and the end result is rather curious.

The team officially announced on Friday that they had agreed to a two-year deal with prospect Ryan Sproul and while the Red Wings did not initially disclose the terms of the deal, Red Wings insider Ansar Khan has released them, and that is where all the interest is.

According to Khan the Wings first year of the contract is a two-way deal something that is surprising for two reasons. The first being the fact that Sproul would agree to such a deal, and the second being the fact that if he fails to make the National Hockey League roster he would be subject to waivers, leaving him exposed to any other NHL team that wants him.

The first year will pay him $600k and the second year is a one-way deal that will earn him $650k.
