Referees ejected wrong Penguins’ player at crucial time of the game!

The Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be finding new ways to lose game ever since captain Sidney Crosby has been sidelined with a core injury. However on Thursday night, they had to thank the officials for finding a creative way to help them lose the contest against the New York Islanders.

Ok, let’s be careful, this is a big statement. However, we cannot deny that what took place on the ice in the last minutes of regulation would have easily thrown off just about anyone. Here is what happen:

Forward Jared McCann was wrongfully ejected from the game in the last minutes of the third period. It seems like someone else should have been ejected... Team insider Josh Yohe of Athletic describes how it all went down:

“With 2:18 remaining in the third period and the Penguins down a goal, Anders Lee struck Brandon Tanev from behind with a dangerous hit. A scrum ensued and involved McCann. Lee wasn’t given a penalty on the play.
“The one ref told me I was gone and to get off the ice,” McCann said. “So I did.”
McCann sat in the locker room, peeling off his sweater and pads following what he believed to be an ejection. Before play resumed, it was determined by the officials that McCann not only wasn’t ejected but wasn’t even penalized. Zach Trotman raced to the locker room to inform McCann of the news. McCann hurriedly got dressed, but officials didn’t wait for him, resuming play without him. At Barclays Center, which, you might have heard, isn’t exactly a great hockey building, the visiting team must get to the bench from the locker room via an entrance behind the goaltender. Hence, a player can’t report to the bench from the locker room without a whistle.
Sullivan was asked if he would have preferred that officials held up the game until McCann returned.
“Yes,” he said.”
We are pretty sure the Penguins’ entire dressing room would have preferred that as well.

Penguins fans are certainly hoping that the team will soon get busy finding creative ways to win games instead of losing them…
