Report: 25 year old forward headed to the waiver wire.

A young forward is headed back to the waiver wire and I have to believe that there is a decent chance he will end up being claimed by one of his former teams.

According to a report from Sportsnet National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks organization has placed 25 year old winger Pontus Aberg on waivers. The news comes as a bit of a surprise given the fact that the Ducks only just recently put in a claim for Aberg when he was placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers organization, but they may not have liked what they saw from the relatively young man.

Aberg was picked up roughly a week ago by the Ducks and since then he has had the chance to participate in one regular season game with the organization although he did not fare particularly well. He picked up a 2 minute minor in his only game with the Ducks and recorded no goals and no assists in that contest while also finishing with a plus minus rating of -1. Add that to the fact that Aberg has a reputation for some off ice concerns and you can begin to paint of picture of why the Ducks decided to cut their losses fairly early on with Aberg.

The good news here is that if you're the Edmonton Oilers you now get the chance to get the player you lost for nothing a week ago back on your own roster, although there may be some complications on this front as well. First and foremost if the Oilers are the only team to put in a claim for Aberg it would be a big benefit for them as they would immediately be able to send Aberg down to the American Hockey League, something they wanted to do the first time they placed him on waivers, without having to put him through the waiver process again. The Oilers could then in theory keep him down in Bakersfield with their AHL affiliate the Condors for as long as they felt necessary and only call him up once they believe they have the room to accommodate him. On the other hand however the Oilers would be forced to submit him through waivers again if any other NHL team also placed a waiver claim for him which would basically put them right back where they started a week ago when they tried to send him down in the first place.

As of right now it is not entirely clear whether or not the Oilers will in fact put in a claim for the 25 year old former 2nd round pick, as I stated above the Oilers had some issue off the ice prior to placing him on waivers in the first place. Aberg was reportedly a headache for the Oilers and even puleld antics like missing an entire practice, something that like led to him being the player they chose to waive at the end of training camp in the first place. If they feel he is more trouble than he is worth they may simply pass on the opportunity.
