The Montreal Canadiens made a big move on draft day effectively trading former Habs forward Lars Eller for former Chicago Blackhawk forward Andrew Shaw.

While Eller is off to play with the Capitals the future of soon to be restricted free agent Shaw was a little more up in the air, and while it was believed the Habs would reach a new deal with him prior to free agency there were some doubts.

Those doubts have been shattered, and the Canadiens have officially announced that they have come to terms on a massive new six year contract with Shaw, making him a Hab for the foreseeable future.

While the Canadiens did not report the financial terms of the deal, according to a report from general fanager the Canadiens got a bit of a discount for giving up so much term, with an average annual value of $3.9 million. Early reports suggested that the motivation for the trade from Chicago was Shaw's asking price of $4.5 million per season.

Also worth noting, the Canadiens did not give up a no move or no trade clause in this new deal.
