Report: Another Canadian team was in the mix for Jagr

According to a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Jaromir Jagr was nearly a member of the Vancouver Canucks. In his latest 31 Thoughts article for Sportsnet, Friedman reveals that the team was considering bringing in the 45-year-old veteran before finally inking Thomas Vanek to a one-year, $2 million deal.

Check it out:

Sounds like St. Louis’s offer for Jagr was in the $850,000 range, not including bonuses. Before signing Thomas Vanek, Vancouver discussed the possibility of Jagr, too.

Wow. Could you imagine Jagr with the rebuilding Canucks? How about putting the legendary winger on a line with Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin? It could have been called the Hall of Fame line!

At the end of the day, the signing wouldn’t make much sense. The Calgary Flames are in a much better position to compete for a Stanley Cup this season and Jagr likely factored that into his own decision making. Still… you can’t help but think of the alternate reality with Jagr on the west coast.
