REPORT: Another Hawk added to USA roster
Keystone Press

Another day, another announcement concerning a member of the Chicago Blackhawks and team USA. Earlier today the Hawks announced that forward Nick Schmaltz will be joining teammate Trevor van Riemsdyk in Paris, France for the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championships.

Earlier this week Hawks superstar Patrick Kane put speculation to rest and announced that he would not be representing USA in the annual tournament, so it appears that Schmaltz and van Riemsdyk will be the lone Hawks representative for the red, white and blue.

A first round pick (20th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft,  made his pro debut this season in Chicago and scored 6 goals while adding 22 assists for 28 points in 61 games. He also added 9 points in 12 games with Rockford of the AHL. While the 21 year-old didn’t make many headlines in a stacked NHL rookie class that included instant stars like Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine, Zach Werenski, Matthew Tkachuk and others, the youngster impressed during his rookie campaign.

It’s expected that Schmaltz will take another step next season and the opportunity to play on the world stage should only benefit him in the long run.
