According to Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas, top prospect Timothy Liljegren is doubtful to join Team Sweden at the upcoming World Junior Championships in Vancouver and Victoria due to a high ankle sprain injury.

Dubas met with reporters today to discuss several things and almost casually tossed out the news that Liljegren’s return from injury is a “ways off.”

Check out this reporting from Leafs insider Kristen Shilton of TSN:

Additionally, Dubas revealed that the Leafs hoped to have Liljegren up at the NHL level at some point this season, but that his injury will probably prevent that from happening:

Tough break for the teenager. He’s been great with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies this season, putting up two goals and eight points in 19 games so far. Prior to suffering his injury Liljegren was playing top paring minutes, top matchup minutes and was seeing PP1+PK1 time, as well.
