The Chicago Blackhawks might have one of the deepest systems in the entire National Hockey League when it comes to the goaltending position, and they took another step to securing that on Tuesday.

The Blackhawks have announced the signing of former 7th round draft pick, 24 year old Mac Carruth , to a a new one year deal, the terms of which were not disclosed.

Here' the official announcement from the Blackhawks:

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have agreed to terms with goaltender Mac Carruth on a one-year contract.

Carruth, 24, started the 2015-16 season with the Indy Fuel of the East Coast Hockey League, posting a 12-10-3 record alongside a 2.43 goals against average and .918 save percentage in 25 games. He finished this season with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey league where he went 6-5-2 with two shutouts. With the IceHogs, Carruth posted a 2.30 GAA and .926 save percentage.

The Salt Lake City native has a career record of 10-8-3 in 27 career games with Rockford with a 2.56 GAA and .923 save percentage. Carruth was originally selected by Chicago in the 7th round (191st overall) pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.

It's a curious signing in part due to the signing of goaltender Lars Johansson earlier during this offseason which now leaves the Chicago farm system with seemingly an overabundance of goaltenders. Both Corey Crawford and Scott Leighton don't appear to be going anywhere either leaving little room for upward mobility.
