According to a report from Boston Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, Bruins defensemen Kevan Miller, who has been out day to day with a hand injury since last week, will be out of the team’s lineup for four weeks.

Kevan Miller (hand) is out for four weeks.

Ouch… that hurts.

With Torey Krug already out long term with an ankle injury and with day to day injuries to Charlie McCoy and rookie Urho Vaakanainen, this really, REALLY hurts the Bruins’ blue line.

In their current state the Bruins will likely roll with pairings like this for tonight’s matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers:

Zdeno Chara - Brandon Carlo
Matt Grzelcyk - John Moore
Jeremy Lauzon - Steve Kampfer

That’s not exactly a Stanley Cup winning defence corps right there…

The 30 year old Miller has played seven games for the Bruins so far this season, scoring just a single assist along the way. But, the gritty defensive blue liner isn’t typically counted on to provide offence. Rather, he’s used to throwing his 6 foot, 2 inch, 210 pound body around in the Bruins defensive zone. With him out of the lineup, most of the Bruins’ blue line grit will be left in the hands of 41 year old Chara.
