Report: Bruins early frontrunners to land Simmonds?
Zuma Press

Earlier this week Philadelphia Flyers insider Sam Carchidi reported that the team’s new general manager Chuck Fletcher has essentially put everyone on the team’s roster, save for captain Claude Giroux and rookie goalie Carter Hart, up for offers on the trade block. One forward, pending unrestricted free agent Wayne Simmonds, is likely to receive a TON of interest on the trade market, but it’s not exactly clear where he’ll end up just yet.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported earlier today that the futures of top trade bait targets like Artemi Panarin, Matt Duchene and Mark Stone will very much factor into Simmonds’ destination. But, all that aside Friedman did indicate that the Boston Bruins look to be the early frontrunner for Simmonds.

Check it out:

I think the full market for Wayne Simmonds will be known once some of the Duchene/Panarin/Stone decisions are revealed. There are teams like Boston who are probably in for him no matter what, but others who will wait to see the entire picture.

Makes total sense when you think about it. Simmonds would look PERFECT in a Bruins jersey and he’s exactly the type of winger that GM Don Sweeney is looking for. Last year’s Rick Nash experiment didn’t go quite as hoped, but there’s reason to believe that Simmonds might be a better fit for the team.

The big power forward has 15 goals and 23 points in 50 games this season and would be a HUGE upgrade on David Backes on the Bruins’ second line, right wing position.
