After a report earlier this week that the Boston Bruins had offered emerging young superstar David Pastrnak a six-year, $36 million contract that was rejected, Boston Globe reporter Kevin Paul Dupont is setting the record straight on what Pastrnak was ACTUALLY offered. Check it out:

While that’s significantly more money on the table, the average annual salary (AAV) is the exact same as the offer reported earlier this week. If Pastrnak isn’t interested in signing a six-year deal worth $6 million annually, he’s unlikely to want to commit to a seventh year for the same salary. If he’s signing long-term, he wants top dollar. So, what do you think is a fair deal for Pastnak? Especially now in the wake of Edmonton Oilers sniper Leon Draisaitl and his brand new eight-year, $68 million contract.

You have to imagine that an extra $1 million per year over six or even seven years will likely be enough for Pastrnak to re-up, but what if it’s not? Draisaitl’s deal pays him $8.5 million per and Pastrnak can make an argument that he’s even more valuable. Whichever was you look at it, the Bruins are in a tough position during these negotiations. While they’re wary of doing any damage to the relationships between the team and the player, they also need to be prudent in managing their salary cap for the next 4-5 seasons.

Interesting times in Beantown. Stay tuned.
