The ongoing saga between the Boston Bruins and unsigned restricted free-agent David Pastrnak has dragged on for weeks now and with training camp opening up this week in Boston, the pressure is on the two sides to make a deal now more than ever. With Bruins players returning to the city and prepping for the 2017-18 campaign, Boston Herald’s Matt Kalman caught up with Bruins star Brad Marchand and managed to get his opinion on the matter earlier this week.

 Check it out:

“We all want to see each other be successful. He had a great year last year so we’ll be very happy for him with whatever he ends up getting. The contract that he signs, he’s going to make a lot of money, he’s a phenomenal player, he’s 21 years old, he’s going to have a long career. We all like to see each other be successful and do well and that’s the way the game goes."

So there goes any theory that the Bruins stars, including Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and Tuukka Rask, would be miffed if Pastrnak were to become the team’s highest paid player. A rising tide lifts all boats, as the old saying goes.

Marchand admits that times are different now than when he negotiated his contract with the Bruins last September, “The league’s trending upwards and the contracts are getting higher and higher," he said. "You look around and some of the deals that were thrown out this summer for young guys. It wasn’t like that three or four years ago and that’s the way it is now… that’s just the way it is.”

What do you think Bruins fans? Does a deal get done for Pastrnak before the season starts? Or, is he going to have to wait for his big pay day?
