Report: Bruins out on Kovalchuk negotiations

In case you missed the news yesterday, the Los Angeles Kings and forward Ilya Kovalchuk officially parted ways following a bonus payment due to Kovalchuk earlier this month. Kovalchuk’s contract with the Kings was subsequently terminated and he’s now officially an unrestricted free agent available to any other team in the NHL.

Over the past 24 hours there has been no shortage of speculation about where Kovy might end up, with most insiders pointing to the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames as potential suitors. Well… think again, bud because the Bob Father himself has spoken.

NHL insider Bob McKenzie of TSN reported earlier today that not only are the Penguins and Flames not interested in Kovalchuk, but the Bruins, who actually tendered an offer to Kovalchuk in the 2018 offseason, have no interest in him either.

Check it out:

Interesting. If McKenzie reports it, you just KNOW that it’s the rock solid truth. He’s simply the most trusted insider in the sport and… frankly, it’s not even close.

It’ll be interesting to see where Kovalchuk ends up, as it’s believed that he’s open to signing for league minimum and wants to go to a Stanley Cup contender. Could the St. Louis Blues ink him as a temporary replacement for the injured Vladimir Tarasenko? Or what about the Tampa Bay Lightning? Imagine them with another offensive weapon on the power play. Here’s a dark horse candidate though… how about the Edmonton Oilers? The Oilers desperately need help on the wing and… well they have this kid named Connor McDavid who could maybe use a former 50 goal scorer on his wing… just a thought.
