Report: Cal Clutterbuck carried off the ice after the end of Game 2.

The early game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Islanders on Sunday has proved to be a costly one for both teams.

There has been plenty of coverage regarding the almost comical number of injuries the Hurricanes had suffered following Game 2 of their second round series in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but as it turns out the New York Islanders did not escape this game unscathed either. You could be forgiven if you missed it however as the Islanders did a pretty good job of masking it, and it was only after the game had ended that we actually noticed something was up.

After the final horn had sounded and even after the Carolina Hurricanes had celebrated their win on the ice and retreated to the locker room, New York Islanders veteran forward Cal Clutterbuck was spotted being carried across the ice by one of his teammates. It was a very bad scene if you are a New York Islanders fan because not only was Clutterbuck seemingly unable to put any weight on one of his legs, but he was actually using his stick as some sort of makeshift cane or crutch to help him walk off the ice. This is made all the more concerning when you realize that he was leaning heavily on his teammate the entire time, but still needed the assistance of his lumber.

It was when Clutterbuck finally left the ice though that things seemed to be at their worst however, because now Clutterbuck was walking alone. The Islanders forward was barely able to even limp forward with the assistance of his stick, and in fact immediately headed to wards the side of the tunnel in order to brace himself with his free hand against the wall. Even then with the extra added support from the wall and from his stick, Clutterbuck still continued to struggle with walking as he limped forward down the tunnel.

There were no updates on Clutterbuck following the game either, Islanders insider Andrew Gross spoke to Islanders head coach Barry Trotz but the veteran bench boss either refused to share any info about Clutterbuck or merely had none to share at the time. No doubt we will know more before Game 3, but right now it does not look good.
