Report: Cam Ward making a return to the NHL?
Zuma Press

Former NHL goaltender Cam Ward officially retired this offseason after signing a one-day contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in late August. The 35 year old netminder of course played 13 seasons with the Hurricanes before signing with the Chicago Blackhawks for the 2018-19 season.

So, what’s next?

Kick your feet up a bit? Travel the world? Dabble in a new career? Not a chance.

It appears that Ward is back in the game and is helping former teammate, now Hurricanes head coach Rod Bring A’mour. Check out this Ward sighting from Hurricanes reporter Adam Gold who happened to catch the former ‘Canes goalie helping out at practice:

Interesting. Say what you want about Ward and how his play fell off in the latter half of his career, but there’s no denying his body of work. He’s a Stanley Cup champion and was a legitimate NHL starter for more than a decade. He can read the game as well as anyone and certainly has a lot to offer. Brind A’mour and the Hurricanes would be wise to add him to their permanent coaching ranks. Stay tuned, ‘Canes fans.
