Report: Canucks close to signing one veteran, shopping another on trade market

Expect BIG changes on the Canucks’ blueline next season.

According to multiple online reports, the Vancouver Canucks are closing in on a contract extension with veteran defenseman and pending unrestricted free agent Alex Edler.

The 33 year old Edler is coming off a six year, $30 million deal worth $5 million annually. It’s unclear how much Edler will make on his new contract, but analysts have predicted a modest raise for the lifetime Canuck.

Meanwhile, another long serving member of the Canucks’ blue line could be on the move as Matt Sekeres of TSN 1040 radio in Vancouver reports that Canucks GM Jim Benning is indeed shopping Chris Tanev.

With rookie Quinn Hughes and Olli Juolevi both expected to step into the team’s lineup for 2019-20, expect the Canucks blue line to look a LOT different next season.
