Report: Canucks cut 10 after return from China

I thought this team was trying to get younger? Some pretty surprising names are headed to the AHL…

The Vancouver Canucks have announced more cuts to their preseason roster, assigning 10 players to their AHL affiliate the Utica Comets. Not making the cut this season:

Michael Carcone, Right Wing
Yan-Pavel Laplante, Left Wing
Evan McEneny, Defense
Zack MacEwen, Center
Griffen Molino, Forward
Ashton Sautner, Defense
Jordan Subban, Defense
Alexis D'Aoust, Right Wing
Aaron Irving, Defense
Brett McKenzie, Center

The most surprising name on this list is probably Subban. The younger brother of Nashville Predators superstar P.K. Subban has struggled to start his NHL career after two standout seasons at the AHL level. At this point, he doesn’t look like he’ll be an impact player in the NHL.

Forward Griffen Molino is another surprise cut. The speedy winger looked good in preseason games for the Canucks and acquitted himself well during a brief stint with the team in 2016-17.
