When the Vancouver Canucks fell from the 2nd position all the down the the 5th position as a result of the NHL’s Draft Lottery, the collective sigh from the team’s fanbase could be felt across the province of British Columbia. However, over a month later and the team seems content with their position.

“We feel at 5 we’re going to still get a good player. Whether it’s a forward of a defenseman, we’re getting a skilled player,” said general manager Jim Benning when discussing the draft with TSN insider Pierre LeBrun. A rumor circulating today however indicates that Benning may not have been with as forthcoming with LeBrun as it appeared.

If the rumor is to be believed, it appears like the team is zeroing in on the two forwards as options for the 5th overall selection. Both players are lauded and accomplished offensive talents and put up big numbers in 2016-17.

In Glass’ case he produced 32 goals and 94 points in just 69 games with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks this season, while Petterson produced 19 goals and 40 points in 43 games for Timra, alongside Canucks prospect Jonathan Dahlen.
