The Vancouver Canucks just can't catch a break this season.

In spite of the fact that they have only played 12 games thiu far in the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season the Vancouver Canucks have suffered an almost comical number of injuries to a number of their core players. Young stars like Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson have missed multiple games to relatively minor injuries while veterans like Jay Beagle have suffered much more serious injuries, in Beagle's case one that required surgery and will keep him out for weeks. This time however it's a different type of injury for the Canucks, one of the mystery variety.

According to a report from Sportsnet's Irfaan Gaffar the Vancouver Canucks have now also lost 28 year old veteran goaltender Anders Nilsson to an injury, one that comes as a major surprise given Nilsson's activity as of late. Nilsson last played on Thursday night when the Vancouver Canucks faced off against the Arizona Coyotes and Gila River Arena in Glendale Arizona and he did not appear to be injured during that game. Additionally he also served as the backup goaltender for Jacob Markstrom just last night when the Canucks welcomed the Pittsburgh Penguins to Rogers Arena, and again he certainly did not appear to injure himself while sitting on the bench.

Not only is it currently a total mystery how Nilsson got injured but it sounds like the veteran netminder is going to miss some time as well as the Canucks have already made an emergency recall. Again according to Irfaan Gaffer it will be 31 year old veteran goaltender Richard Bachman who has been called up from the Utica Comets and presumably he will fill in for Nilsson in a backup role until the Canucks goalie is able to return from his injury.

It's a tough break for Nilsson who has been playing pretty well for the Canucks this season, recording a 2.67 goals against average and a .912 save percentage over 6 games with the Canucks this season. Depending on how long Nilsson is going to be out for this could seriously throw off his form, and the nature of this mystery injury could also have on impact on what has been stellar play from the backup thus far this season.
