Report: Canucks talking contract with Miller?
Keystone Press

Appearing on Vancouver’s TSN1040 radio station yesterday morning, NHL insider Bob McKenzie hinted at possible contract negotiations between the Vancouver Canucks and veteran goaltender Ryan Miller.

When asked if he thought that a contract extension for Miller would be a good move for the Canucks, McKenzie replied, “I guess really it depends on the term and the dollars and do you really trust Markstrom enough to turn things over to him?” By “turn things over”, McKenzie presumably means do the Canucks have enough faith in Markstrom to become a reliable number one goaltender next season? If not, another season of Miller sharing duties could be on order.

But, is the team a fit from Miller’s perspective? “It’s not an ideal circumstance for Ryan Miller … but it’s a known quantity and he’s been here for the last little while and understands what it’s all about.” McKenzie also hinted that while Miller may ultimately end up in Vancouver, he’ll certainly review other options on the west coast. “At his age and at this stage of his career, he’s also going to be looking for some security. He’ll also see what sort of options exist for him closer to home, which for him is California.”

What do you think? Is Miller worth bringing back for another season in Vancouver? How about two seasons? Or, is now Markstrom’s time to shine?
