Report: Condon and waiver wire activity

In case you missed it, the Ottawa Senators placed goaltender Mike Condon on waivers yesterday, less than 24 hours after he allowed a BRUTAL goal from centre ice against the Arizona Coyotes.

Ouch. That's a career killer. Condon would be replaced by Senators starter Craig Anderson immediately following the goal, but it was too little too late for the Sens. They ended up dropping the game 5-1.

Condon officially cleared waivers at noon ET today and will report to the AHL’s Belleville Senators. Additionally, Ben Street of the Anaheim Ducks has also cleared waivers.

Mike Condon didn’t get the job done Tuesday night in Arizona.

Now he may be forced to battle his way back to the NHL.

The Ottawa Senators’ placed their backup goalie on waivers Wednesday at noon and if he clears he’s expected to be sent to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Belleville to try to get his act together.

In two starts this season, the 28 year-old goaltender has a GAA of 6.40 and a save percentage of .800. His appearance in Arizona was his first in the club’s net since he gave up five goals on 29 shots in a loss to the Boston Bruins Oct. 8th at the TD Garden.

Condon, in his 129-game career, has 45 wins and 58 losses, along with 17 additional losses in overtime. His has a career GAA of 2.79 and a 0.905 save percentage. He allowed three goals on 11 shots before being shown the door by coach Guy Boucher Tuesday.

The Senators aren’t happy that Condon hasn’t performed up to expectations since he signed a three-year, $7.2 million contract extension following Ottawa’s trip to the East final in 2017.

Man, you really have to feel for Condon. The guy is one of the hardest working goalies in the NHL and has carved out a career so far through sheer hard work and determination. Here's hoping he can find his game in the AHL or with another NHL club, should he get picked up off of waivers.
