Report: Contradicting details leaked on Athanasiou negotiations

The Detroit Red Wings opened camp on Thursday morning and, of course, forward Andreas Athanasiou was nowhere to be found. 

It was expected since the 23-year-old and Wings management have yet to agree on a new contract, as Athanasiou is also considering playing in the KHL in Russia, where he has reportedly received significant offers. 

TSN Insider Darren Dreger reported that both parties are still working on an agreement, and that the length of the deal seems to have a few options. 

However, coach Jeff Blashill told Wings beat writer Ansar Khan, that there was nothing new to report and that Athanasiou was still deciding between the NHL offer and the one he received from the KHL...

If the Wings believe the ball is in Athanasiou's court, and he is hoping GM Ken Holland will offer better, we might be in an impasse for much longer...
