Report: Coyotes to honor Cunningham
Keystone Press

The story of Craig Cunningham is nothing short of incredible. The 26-year-old former captain of the Tuscon Roadrunners suffered a massive heart attack on ice last season and was in a coma for nine days following.

While his playing days are now over as a result of the heart attack and the emergency surgery that forced doctors to amputate part of his foot, his days with the Coyotes franchise are far from over. The team hired him as a professional scout in May and have now announced that the Roadrunners will return his number 14 early next season.

How awesome is that? It’s a real classy move from a franchise that has had a difficult time with PR this offseason. The departure of Shane Doan was a huge misstep from the team in the eyes of a lot of fans, but this news at least shows the team has some heart after all.
