It’s one of those trades that makes sense on paper or in EA Sports NHL 19 but that we, as hockey fans, rarely get to see play out in real life. A good, old fashioned one for one, change of scenery type trade. Edmonton Oilers forward Milan Lucic and Vancouver Canucks forward Loui Eriksson have both underperformed since signing with their respective clubs, so why not swap them out and hope that it kickstarts something?

It’s a one for one swap that’s been rumoured for months now, but until today reporters haven’t been able to verify whether there’s any truth to the proposed deal. Oilers insider Jason Gregor of TSN 1260 was on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 radio earlier today though when he reported that indeed Canucks general manager Jim Benning has, or had, considered an Eriksson for Lucic trade.

Check it out:

Again, on the surface it certainly seems to make sense. Hearing that the Canucks have at least considered the deal might mean that we’re closer to a trade than originally thought. Both Eriksson and Lucic come with a $6 million cap hit, while Lucic is signed for an extra year.
