It’s been nearly a month since the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators hooked up on a six player deal that saw former Leafs blueliner Nikita Zaitsev end up in Ottawa, but only now are the behind the scenes details of the deal starting to emerge.

First off, the deal in question:

The Leafs acquired Cody Ceci, Ben Harpur, Aaron Luchuk and a 3rd round pick in exchange for Zaitsev, Connor Brown and Michael Carcone.

The crazy thing about the deal, as we now know, is that Zaitsev had to waive his no-trade clause to go to Ottawa, as the Senators were one of the ten “no go” teams he had on his list.

According to a report from Russian hockey insider Igor Eronko, Zaitsev had all seven Canadian teams on his list, as well as the Detroit Red Wings and “two other” teams.

Check it out:

Uh… does Zaitsev know that Ottawa in in Canada? Someone better get this guy a globe…
