The Detroit Red Wings are looking to add a defenseman to bolster their blue line and according to Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press the Red Wings believe the way to do that is through trades.

In a recent report St. James has revealed that the Red Wings have had discussions with the Anaheim Ducks regarding the availability of defenseman Cam Fowler, although what the Red Wings offered in such a deal is still unknown at this time.

Holland has talked to Anaheim about 24-year-old defenseman Cam Fowler. He’s a local out of Windsor, Ont., where he played juniors. He played 76 games for the Ducks the season after he was drafted, has already played 414 games in his career and is very sound overall. Of his 144 points, 81 have come during power plays. Fowler has two years left on a contract with a cap hit of $4 million.

With the sheer number of rumors surrounding the Ducks defenseman it sounds like they want to get a deal done, but at the draft rumors suggested they had requested a first round pick in any such deal, indicating any such deal will be very costly.

It's unclear how close the Red Wings and the Ducks currently are in their negotiations.
