The Chicago Blackhawks have been without their goaltender for most of March, and it appears the reason for his absence has just been revealed, and the news is not good.

According to a report from Chicago Blackhawks insider Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times, Crawford's "upper-body injury" is actually a head injury, and it certainly sounds like some type of concussion is at the root of the problem. According to Lazerus' source it sounds bad.

From Lazerus' original report:

A source said that Crawford is dealing with a head injury, and possibly something similar to the vertigo symptoms that Bryan Bickell was dealing with last spring. He’s still officially “day to day” with an unspecified upper-body injury.

There's been no word on when Crawford could return, and nothing even resembling a potential timetable, needless to say his absence during the playoffs would be an absolutely disaster for the Blackhawks.
