TSN analyst and NHL insider Darren Dreger was recently on WGR 550 Sports Radio in Buffalo discussing Colorado Avalanche star Matt Duchene and his future with the team when he revealed some interesting developments in the never-ending saga.

According to Dreger, Duchene, “wanted this situation remedied a long time ago and he’s still hoping that that’s the case in the days leading up to the Colorado Avalanche training camp.” Dreger also went on to say that as the team approaches training camp, Avs general manager Joe Sakic will be under even more pressure to make a deal.

Check it out:

“So I would say that while this has seemingly been a back-burner situation for quite some time – several months, in fact over a year – I think it’s now shifted into a front-burner situation and there’ll be a some heat on Sakic and the Avs to get this done in the next 14 days.”

Is Sakic finally running out of time? After repeatedly rebuffing offers from the New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators, does Sakic finally have the guts to pull the trigger on a move? According to Dreger, he may not have a choice:

“I do think that there is a timeline on this because even though you’re talking about a pro in Duchene and Sakic and all of that, I mean how awkward is that going to be if he has to go back to the Avalanche dressing room, back to that camp, face the media, and all of those things.”

While we’ve been following the Duchene developments for months now, things may finally be coming to a head. Don’t be surprised if a big deal breaks in the next 14 days.
