Report: Expert panel ranks NHL’s top 50 players
Keystone Press

An expert panel of 22 analysts contributed to TSN’s comprehensive list of the NHL’s top 50 players and the results may surprise some hockey fans. For the first time in nearly a decade Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is no longer the best player in hockey.

Despite back-to-back Stanley Cups and back-to-back Conn Smythe championships… oh and MVP honors at last September’s World Cup of Hockey, Crosby was edged out of the top spot by Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid.

Rounding out the top three is Ottawa’s Senators captain Erik Karlsson. The superstar defender is the straw the stirs the drink in Ottawa and will be counted on again for big points and big minutes in 2017-18. From there, the rest of the top ten goes as follows: Patrick Kane, Carey Price, Evgeni Malkin, Nikita Kucherov, Brent Burns, Victor Hedman and Auston Matthews.
