Report: False alarm for Matt Murray

Earlier this morning, the Pittsburgh Penguins took to practice in anticipation of their matchup against the Colorado Avalanche. Matt Murray unexpectedly took to the traditional starter's net and took line rushes from the top power play unit.

All indications that he was going to start - to the point where the top Penguins' beat reporters had him pegged to return tonight.

We have now learned that not only will he not start, he won't even be backup, as Tristan Jarry is expected to get the nod with Casey DeSmith backing up.

Murray stayed on long after. Would imagine DeSmith backs up Jarry. Did briefly chat with Murray, and he said he'll be on the VGK/ARI/COL trip.

Murray is very close to a return nonetheless, and will be on the team's upcoming road trip. Pittsburgh takes on the Vegas Golden Knights, and it looks like we may have a Matt Murray - Marc-Andre Fleury showdown.

Both goalies are on the cusp of recovering from injury and may be ready in time to face off against each other. What a storyline that'll be.
