The season is quickly approaching and the urgency increases for the Detroit Red Wings...

The rumor stating that forward Andreas Athanasiou has received a significant offer from the Kontinental Hockey League has gained more traction, as three teams are now supposedly interested in landing the 23-year-old.

Now according to Ansar Khan of MLive.com, Athanasiou's agent Darren Ferris said contract discussions with the Red Wings are ongoing but a deal isn’t imminent.

He also added that the KHL offer remains on the table and he’s expecting a decision later this week.

However, Khan has brought forth a solution for both camps. He believes a two-year bridge deal between $1.5 – $2 million per season with the Wings is a possibility.

Athanasiou is a restricted free agent without arbitration rights, and he could be using the KHL offer as leverage in his negotiations with the Red Wings.

Athanasiou was selected by the Wings in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL draft. Since then, he recorded 27 goals and added 16 assists for 43 points in 101 games.
