Report: Flames dealing with injuries to two of their core players.
Keystone Press

It's a rough day for members of the Calgary Flames as we have confirmation on two injuries to two players integral to the team's success.

First, the big one, according to a report from Sportsnet's Roger Millions, star forward Sean Monahan has suffered some kind of back injury, with Millions labeling it a "strain" and it's unclear how much time he will be expected to miss. Millions added that Monahan is "hopeful" he will be able to play in the final 3-4 exhibition games prior to the season but that is far from being an official medical report. Obviously back injuries are always a major concern and hopefully this isn't one of those nagging back injuries that so often haunt players.

We also have a report from the Flames organization themselves who announced today through social media that forward Mikael Backlund had also been injured, officially confirmed that he has in fact suffered a concussion. It's unclear what Backlund's status is at this time either, with general manager Brad Treliving simply stating he is hopeful Backlund can resume skating "soon."
