Report: Flyers cut 6 players from roster

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall announced that the team has reduced its training camp roster by 6 players.

The following players were all assigned to the team’s AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms:

Mark Alt - Defense
Will O’Neill - Defense
TJ Brennan - Defense
Grey Carey
- Forward
Corbin Knight - Forward
Phil Varone - Forward
Alex Lyon - Goaltender

Mark Alt, a 25-year-old defenseman, was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes on January 13th of 2015 with Brian Boucher, in exchange for Luke Pitner. Last season, he registered 11 points in 40 games with the Phantoms. 

TJ Brennan, 28, was signed by the Flyers as a free agent back in 2016. In 76 games with Lehigh Valley last season, he registered 60 points. 

O’Neill, 29, was also signed by Philadelphia as a free agent in 2016. Last season, he registered 31 points in 57 games, all with the Phantoms. 

Greg Carey, a 27-year-old Ontario native signed by the Flyers as a free agent in the 2016 summer, scored 28 goals and added 23 assists in 74 games with Lehigh Valley. 

Knight, 27, was signed this summer as an unrestricted free agent. In 72 games with the Phantoms, he registered 40 points. 

Varone, 26, was also signed as a free agent this summer. Last season, he played seven games with the Ottawa Senators, but did not registered a point. In 65 games with the Binghamton Senators, he scored 15 goals and added 36 assists for a total of 51 points. 

There are still 29 players at the Flyers Training Camp.
