Report: Flyers name their starting goaltender... for now.

The Flyers have a tense battle in goal this season.

The Philadelphia flyers have named their starter for the time being and that man is Michal Neuvirth.

“I’m very excited for the season to begin and a new start for everybody,” Neuvirth said as per CSN Philly. “I can’t wait till the drop of the puck.”

“It means a lot, it’s a huge game, the first of the season and I want to start on the right track,” said Neuvirth, who couldn’t remember when he last began the season in net.

Needless to say as happy as Neuvirth was about being named the starter, veteran Steve Mason was just as unhappy with the decision.

“I would have liked to play, but coaches' decision,” said Mason, who was tight-lipped. “I’m not gonna let it affect me otherwise.”

The good news is Mason has no intention of giving up the starting job, which should lead to both men pressuring one another to play better throughout the season once again, a positive for the Flyers to be sure.

“It’s one game, and basically that is the approach I am taking this year — one game at a time,” Mason said. “Whatever happens along the way, I will do my best to keep an even mindset. Just try to be real focused this year.”
