A crushing loss so early in the season.

It's been a rough star to the season for the Dallas Stars, and it just got a lot worse.

The Stars today have confirmed that veteran forward Ales Hemsky for what seems like it will be the rest of the season, given that his recovery time is projected at 5-6 months, a devastating injury to be sure.

The Stars have released an official statement:

"Ales underwent surgery this morning to repair a labral tear in his hip. The injury was sustained while he was participating in the World Cup of Hockey. He will be out of the lineup for five to six months as he recovers and rehabilitates."

This now makes three forwards that were on the roster at the start of training camp who are unlikely to play one more game this season, with Mattias Janmark already out with a major knee injury as well as Valeri Nichushkin leaving to the KHL after a contract dispute.

It's tough not to feel sorry for the Stars at this point.
