Former Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies forward Mark Arcobello was named to Team USA’s Olympic roster yesterday afternoon during the second intermission of the 2018 Winter Classic at Citi Field in New York.

Arcobello briefly played in the Leafs organization during the 2015-16 season, scoring three goals and four points in 20 games with the Leafs and 25 goals and 59 points in 49 games with the Marlies. The 29-year-old Arcobello signed with Bern SC in the Swiss-A league following his stint with the Leafs and has gone on to establish himself as one of the league’s top goal scorers.

With the NHL and IOC unable to come to an agreement for this year’s Winter Olympics, roster spots are being filled by players like Arcobello. That is to say, former NHLers now playing in Europe and NCAA players not currently under contract. Team Canada is expected to unveil its roster later this week. Expect more former Leafs to be included in that team as well, with Mason Raymond leading the way.
