According to a report from Russian hockey insider Igor Eronko, former blue chip prospect Mikhail Grigorenko’s NHL career may be over. The 23 year-old sniper has never fulfilled expectations at the NHL level after being selected 12th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He’s currently an unrestricted free-agent after being left unqualified by the Colorado Avalanche and may head back home to Russia, according to Eronko:

The 6’3, 209 lb center is just 23 years-old, so there’s still time for him to get his NHL career back on track, should he elect to sign with a North American club, but given his inconsistent play since entering the league, it’s likely that the offers he’s received aren’t big-ticket offers. So the question becomes, will he swallow his pride and take a short-term, low-money offer in the hopes of resurrecting his career? Or will he chase big dollars and a sure bet back home in Russia?

He’s an intriguing case for a lot of teams, it will be interesting to see how his situations plays out.
