Report: Gary Bettman getting the wrong kind of attention from extremely powerful people.

Some very bad signs for the NHL's commissioner.

The National Hockey League's commissioner has taken a very hard line stance regarding the NHL's responsibility when it comes to the long-term health of their players, specifically those who suffer long-term health issues as a result of the head injuries they suffered during their time as NHL players.

That stance has now earned Gary Bettman the attention of some extremely powerful people in the United States government, and unfortunately for Bettman it doesn't seem to be the kind of attention you want to be attracting from these kind of people.

United states congresswoman Jan Schakowsky was by far the most critical of the stance held by the NHL's commissioner, and her comments have to be considered a major embarrassment for Bettman. Schakowsky stated that Bettman "is still in denial,” in regards to the the links between head trauma and CTE, and she was not alone.

Schakowsky as well as three other members of congress, Frank Pallone Jr., Gene Green and Diana DeGette, all of whom are members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and all of whom are Democrats, have penned a letter largely critical of the NHL, questioning the role of fighting in their game as well as questioning how much the league has done to minimize the risk.

They are now currently awaiting a reply from the NHL, although it's unclear what the NHL's response will be if they make one at all. -
