Report: GM provides major update on top scoring RFA

Believe it or not but the NHL pre-season is just six weeks away. With the offseason pageantry of the NHL Draft and the opening of free-agency now behind us, the spotlight is burning brightly on the last remaining unsigned restricted free-agents still out there, including Vancouver Canucks leading scorer Bo Horvat.

Horvat experienced a breakout campaign with the Canucks in 2016-17 scoring 20 goals and 52 points in 81 games. The 22 year-old center looks poised for big things in 2017-18, but first he’ll need to come to reach a new agreement with Canucks general manager Jim Benning.

Benning was recently interviewed by Vancouver area newspaper the Province where he discussed the negotiation process with Horvat’s camp. “I think the talks are progressing and I think we’ll get something done,” said Benning. “It’s a typical negotiation because he’s a real good player and a good person, but I’m not going to comment publicly on the negotiation process.”

Here’s hoping the two sides can come together before it becomes a real distraction at the team’s training camp. The Canucks can hardly afford to lose Horvat’s production moving forward.
