Report: Golden Knights lied about coaching changes

A damning report on the inner workings of Vegas' management team.

The Vegas Golden Knights shocked the entire hockey world when they unceremoniously axed head coach Gerard Gallant less than a month from the NHL’s trade deadline, opting instead to hire Pete DeBoer after he was fired from his job with Vegas’ arch rival San Jose Sharks.

It was a bizarre scenario that left hockey fans across the NHL scratching their heads. After all, DeBoer and the Sharks were absolutely AWFUL in 2019-20 and the Golden Knights were in no real danger of missing the playoffs, despite a lacklustre first half of the season.

In any case, Gallant is out. DeBoer is in. And, as you might expect, DeBoer brought in a few of his “own people.” One of the hires under DeBoer was goaltending coach Mike Rosati. Vegas’ former goaltending coach Dave Prior was sent home to Ontario to “continue to support us that way,” according to DeBoer. But the thing is… none of that is true says Prior.

In fact, Prior says he was unceremoniously dumped by the Golden Knights in February, just as Gallant was in January.

Check out these quotes from DeBoer courtesy of SinBin.Vegas with contradictory quotes from Prior himself below:

*You probably noticed Dave Prior wasn’t out there today. We’ve restructured our goaltending department a little bit here. Mike Rosati, starting tomorrow, will handle the day to day stuff. -DeBoer on February 26th, 2020*

*Dave is still part of the organization. It’s not health-related. Dave’s role here has always been bigger than the day to day coaching job and he’s going to base out of Ontario and continue to support us that way. -DeBoer on February 26th, 2020*

*They weren’t truthful when they said I returned to Ontario and continued to do my duties, as I was told I’m relieved of my NHL coaching duties and I can go back home and would no longer be doing anything for the team. -Dave Prior*

Earlier this month GM Kelly McCrimmon stated that Prior remains the team’s Director of Goaltending. Prior contends that his contract expired on June 30th and that he hasn’t done a lick of work for the team since his dismissal back in February.

One thing’s for sure… someone’s lying.
