Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery and that this doesn't affect his NHL future...

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Carl Grundstrom underwent successful knee surgery in Sweden yesterday and will be out of the lineup for Frolunda HC for the next four to six weeks.

While the news may not seem good, the initial prognosis on Grundstrom was that he’d miss the rest of the season rehabbing the injury, so the latest development is actually good news for the 19-year-old forward.

Grundstrom was drafted in the 2nd round (57th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and has put up five goals and six points in 11 games with Frolunda so far the season. Leafs fans may remember that the big Swede had a brief audition with the Toronto Marlies last season in the playoffs where he scored three goals and four points in just six playoff games.

Last season with Frolunda he recorded 14 goals and 20 points in 45 games playing as an 18-year-old in Sweden’s top division. With any luck, he’ll recover from his injury in full, but he looks doubtful for Sweden’s World Junior Championship squad.
