Report: Habs expected to terminate one of their defensemen.

It seems that the Montreal Canadiens are becoming to quick to admit when they have made a mistake. 

According to a report from Sportsnet's National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman the Habs have placed recently signed defenseman Michal Moravcik on waivers today, but not with the intention of sending him down to the American Hockey League. No instead, according to Friedman, the plan here is for the Canadiens to terminate Moravcik's contract for good just a few short months after signing him to a 2 year contract.

The Canadiens brought Moravcik over from the Czech Republic in May of 2018 when they signed him to a 2 year deal worth $1.85 million or an average annual value of $925,000 per season. That being said though I think it is now safe to say that this deal proved to be a complete and utter failure on the part of the Canadiens organization, although I have no doubt that they had good reason to suspect that Moravcik could be a valuable asset for their team.

Moravcik never appeared in even a single NHL game for the Habs instead immediately joining the ranks of the Canadiens American Hockey League affiliate, the Laval Rocket. That being said though things did not go so well for Moravcik even at the AHL level, he managed to appear in just a total of 20 games for the rocket, picking up a single goal and 2 assists for a total of 3 points while also adding 8 penalty minutes. Over his tenure with the rocket he boasted a respectable plus minus rating of +4 but clearly the Habs did not like what they saw from him.

Moravcik would once again be demoted down to the ECHL where he would join the Brampton Beast, but again his stay there was very short lived. He would last just 4 games picking up no goals and 2 assists for a total of 2 points and finished those 4 games with a plus minus rating of -1. It seems like that both sides felt this deal was simply not working out and I would not be surprised if Moravcik prefers to return to his home in the Czech Republic and play there rather than linger in the ECHL.
