Report: Habs out of Matt Duchene sweepstake?
Keystone Press Agency

The Habs need scoring and fast. With the best available player still waiting for a trade in Colorado, will Marc Bergevin go big and finally get Matt Duchene to Montreal?

Apparently not.

That's what TSN insider Darren Dreger seems to think. During a segment on Vancouver's TSN 1040, he went on to say:

“When I deal with Montreal sources, I keep hearing that they’re not in on Matt Duchene. But again, I always take that kind of intel coming out of Montreal with a bit of a grain of salt because what was it when P.K. Subban was traded – Marc Bergevin came out publically and said, ‘No, I’m not trading him.’ And days later, P.K. Subban gets dealt to the Nashville Predators.”

He did however add that afterwards

“Now stuff happens, as they say, and I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in that sense. If they don’t start scoring some goals with some level of consistency, then I don’t know how they can’t express some interest in Matt Duchene.”

Should Duchene be Montreal's number one target?
