Report: Hall of Fame teammate blasts Sakic and Avs for handling of Duchene situation

During an interview on a Swedish broadcast of the Avalanche-Devils game on Saturday, former Colorado Avalanche and Hockey Hall of Famer Peter Forsberg shared his thoughts on the Matt Duchene situation. Forsberg said that Avalanche General Manager Joe Sakic should « bench and trade» Duchene.

Duchene, Avalanche first round pick (third overall) in 2009 has not publicly requested a trade, but he’s clearly unhappy with the team. He reported to the teams’s training camp only to show respect to the team, his teammates and the fans, Duchene said to reporters. Forsberg added that he would have never accepted to play with a player that doesn’t want to play for his team, and that situation like this takes energy from the team.

Forsberg didn’t hesitate, saying that Joe Sakic needs to trade him as soon as possible, before the situation gets even worst.
