As one of the most dominant players of his generation, it must be hard for Jarome Iginla to suddenly find himself without a suitor this offseason. The former two-time 50 goal scorer and Rocket Richard Trophy winner still remains without a contract nearly three weeks into the opening of the NHL’s free-agent period and admits that he’s started pondering retirement.

"At 40, you want to be on a contending team," said Iginla to reporters with Kamloops This Week, a publication in the NHL star’s offseason home. "With the parity in the NHL, there are probably 15 teams that have a chance. … You factor all that in, along with family. At this point, we're still uncertain."

Uncertain is putting it lightly. After a dreadful year split between the Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings, the 40 year-old veteran is hoping that his experience and pedigree can earn him at least one final shot at a Stanley Cup.“I know last year I had a tough year, probably the toughest of my career,” Iginla said. “I look at it as fuel. I think I can bounce back and score goals and help a team in different areas."

And, what if a return isn’t in the cards? “If I keep playing, I look forward to that,” he says. “I’ll be ready. If I don’t, I’ve had a great run and I’m very thankful for that.”

What else would you expect from the man they call Iggy? Pure class.
