So... what’s a fair price for the superstar center then?

Earlier this week reports surfaced that the New York Islanders had offered superstar John Tavares an EXTREMELY lucrative new contract that was rebuffed by the team’s captain. That offer? It was reportedly worth at staggering $84 million. The only catch is that it’s not true according to Newsday reporter and Islanders insider Arthur Staple:

That offer, assuming it’s for the maximum term length of 8 seasons, would give Tavares an annual average salary of $10.5 million. If he did indeed reject it, that’s troubling news for Isles fans. If Staple’s report is correct however, it still remains to be seen how JT values himself.

What do you think is a fair deal for the 26-year-old former 1st overall pick? His 28 goals and 66 points in 77 games last season are nothing to sneeze at, but is he really worth over $10 million per season?
