James Wisniewski suffered a torn ACL in his left knee at the very beginning of last season, playing in only a single game.
That was all the Carolina Hurricanes needed to know in order to buy out his $5 million contract last June.
The 32-year-old defenseman has apparently not given up hope on making a comeback in the NHL, however. Having posted 274 points in 552 career games, the 6’ blue-liner known more for his accurate and powerful slap shot as opposed to his strong defensive play has been offered a professional tryout by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
RDS.ca reports that he’ll attend the Bolts’ training camp in an attempt to secure a roster spot for the 2016-2017 season.
